The TinyURL alternative for links that carry your brand

Last updated: August 29, 2026 · Written by URLVIS — yes, we are one of the two products on this page. Sources and methodology are at the bottom.

TinyURL is the simplest way to shorten a link anonymously, and for a one-off paste that is exactly right. The moment links represent a business — printed QR menus, SMS campaigns, bio pages — anonymous generic-domain links become a liability: recipients cannot tell them from phishing, and on TinyURL’s free tier a published link’s destination cannot be edited. URLVIS is built for the business case: your own domain on every plan, editable destinations everywhere, and a security scan on every target.

Why businesses outgrow TinyURL

Nothing is wrong with TinyURL for what it is. Businesses leave when three needs appear:

Recipients cannot verify the sender

A tinyurl.com address says nothing about who sent it — which is precisely why scam texts love generic shorteners. A link on link.yourbrand.com carries your name and your reputation. Our whole product exists because inspected, branded routes get clicked and generic mystery links increasingly do not.

Free links are frozen after creation

Public pricing breakdowns consistently report that link editing is a paid feature at TinyURL (as of August 2026) — publish a flyer with a typo’d destination and the print run is wasted. On URLVIS every plan, including Free, edits destinations at any time; printed QR codes keep working while the target changes behind them.

No security story at all

TinyURL does not position destination scanning as a feature on any tier (as of August 2026). URLVIS scans every destination before it goes live and re-scans it afterwards — because the fastest way to lose a domain’s reputation is one bad link on it.

TinyURL’s public pricing reporting is inconsistent across sources (entry paid tier appears as $9.99–$16/mo depending on the source, as of August 29, 2026) — where sources conflict we say so rather than pick a number. Reviewed quarterly. Spot an error? Email [email protected].

Which tool fits which job?

The honest split — and what each trade actually costs:

  • Shortening a link RIGHT NOW with zero setup is the job: TinyURL has been the fastest way to do that since 2002, and we will not pretend otherwise. The speed comes from anonymity — the exact property that makes recipients hesitate to click.
  • A personal, throwaway link that represents nobody is the job: use TinyURL, sincerely. The moment a link represents your business, anonymous is the problem, not the feature.
  • Two decades of operating history is the job: that history is real — and the address on your flyer still says tinyurl.com, not your name. Longevity accrues to their domain; on URLVIS it accrues to yours.

Moving your business links off TinyURL

  1. List the destinations behind your TinyURL links (export where your plan allows).
  2. Add your domain in URLVIS — one CNAME record, automatic SSL, the domain stays yours.
  3. Recreate the links (bulk CSV import on Pro and Business); every destination is scanned as it lands.
  4. tinyurl.com addresses themselves cannot move — the domain is theirs. Replace them channel by channel; the new addresses never need migrating again.

The honest part: no provider can move a tinyurl.com address. What you are buying is that the NEXT address is on a domain you own — the last migration you will do.

Other TinyURL alternatives worth considering

  • Bitly — The category’s biggest brand; custom domain from paid tiers.
  • Rebrandly — Branded-link specialist; free tier includes a custom domain, plans meter tracked clicks.
  • Short.io — Generous free tier with multiple custom domains; analytics-first.

Common questions when leaving TinyURL

I only need a few links. Is URLVIS overkill?

The Free plan is sized for exactly that: 1 custom domain, 5 links and 5 QR codes a month with the full security filter and no credit card. If the links carry your brand, small volume is not a reason to stay generic.

Why does URLVIS require a domain when TinyURL doesn’t?

It is our anti-abuse architecture: scammers do not bother configuring DNS, and every customer being isolated on their own domain means nobody shares anybody else’s fate. It is also why the custom domain is free on every plan — the product cannot work without it.

Can recipients trust my links more on my own domain?

That is the bet the whole product makes: a recognizable domain plus a pre-publication security scan is the difference between “mystery link” and “inspected route.” Try the same inspection free on our link checker.

Methodology & disclosure

How this comparison was made: URLVIS figures come from our pricing engine. TinyURL figures were compiled on August 29, 2026 from public pricing breakdowns; TinyURL’s reported pricing varies notably across sources, so where sources conflicted we wrote that instead of choosing a number. URLVIS wrote this page — verify on tinyurl.com and email [email protected] about anything stale.
